Microbits

The BBC micro:bit – the next gen campaign has teamed up with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to launch an exciting investigation – the BBC micro:bit playground survey – a UK-wide exploration of the place school children visit nearly every day, and one that can have a huge impact on their lives and local community.

In this survey we are trying to answer 4 key questions:

How does the surface material of our playground affect the surface temperature?

How many different species of plants and animals do we have in our playground?

What is the area of our school playground?

What types of activity do we do in the school playground? How accurate is the data?

The playground survey provides a practical approach to understanding the value of data and how data is used in today’s world. The survey is a series of seven fun, cross-curricular activities, designed to work flexibly to help teachers fit the learning into a busy timetable. Take a look at the teacher guides below for an overview of the entire project and all the available resources. Download a poster for your class to keep track of your results here.
